Approximately 50 automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police say early analysis indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure said the attack left him stunned and required to be addressed quickly.
"This act hits the center of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
